Dogs tilt their heads to remember & recall says Dr. Andrea Sommese, the lead researcher for this study, from Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest.
The Gifted dogs who can be seen in the Genius Dog Challenge, very often tilt their heads upon hearing their owner’s request for a named toy. Researchers found the side towards which dogs tilted their heads, was stable for each individual across experiments spanning 24 months.
“It seems there’s a relationship between success in retrieving a named toy, and frequent head tilts upon hearing it’s name. That’s why we suggest an association between head-tilting and processing relevant and meaningful stimuli” clarifies Shany Dror, co-author of the study.
Holland is a country which is below sea level. In order to mitigate the effects of rising sea level, architects from the Powerhouse Company designed & built a floating office block.
This building floats in the harbour area, also using the cold waters of the North Sea as a heat sink. This regulates the office temperatures without the need for air-conditioning.
The building hosts The Global Centre on Adaptation.
Singles day is a traditional Chinese unofficial holiday, celebrating people who are not in relationships. The date 11 November was chosen because the numeral 1 resembles a bare stick, which is Chinese Internet slang for an unmarried man who does not add ‘branches’ to the family tree.
By a bizarre turn of fete, the holiday has become a popular day on which people celebrate relationships. More than 4,000 couples got married on this day in Bejing in 2011, many more than the 700 daily average.
Single or not, today is a good day to celebrate just being alive, if we ever needed a reason!
